SMC Hosting Career Fairs on Both Campuses
Connecting with local and national employers at Southwestern Michigan College’s Career Fair will be twice as easy. Open to SMC students and the community, SMC offers two opportunities to meet and interact with companies across a variety of fields, first March 7 on the Dowagiac campus and then March 14 in the Niles campus commons. The Dowagiac fair runs from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Mathews Conference Center East. Hours for the Niles fair are 2-6 p.m.

Dorothy Ivey Passes Away at 101
Dorothy Lee Lewis Ivey (Jan. 25, 1922-Feb. 25, 2023), the wife of Southwestern Michigan College’s first president, Dr. Nathan Ivey, died of aortic valve failure early Saturday after five weeks in home hospice care in Dallas. She was 101.

SMC Uses Increased Student Engagement and Online Courses to Boost Enrollment
Southwestern Michigan College has tied for the highest amount of credit-hour growth for Fall 2023 (+10.8 percent) with Kellogg Community College of Battle Creek among Michigan’s 29 community colleges. This is the fourth straight semester with a higher enrollment than the previous year.

SMC Construction Club a Wooden Product Incubator
If it’s Wednesday, Southwestern Michigan College Construction Club members can be found woodworking on their own time in the Jan and A.C. Kairis Building lab. Of particular interest is finishing products for their booth at the second annual RonnieCon in Mathews Conference Center West. The March 25 Adventurers Guild tabletop convention combines tournaments with a vendors’ fair.
