Course Description

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in ENGL 115, ENGL 103, ENGL 103W, or ENGL 104, or satisfactory test scores placing into ENGL 103W or higher. Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 115 allowed. This course serves as an introduction to the study of ethics. Students will read classic texts from the history of ethics: Plato, Aristotle, Hume, Mill, Kant, and Freud. Students will apply ethical theory and moral reasoning to contemporary issues in business, politics, the environment, and/or the health care industry. Students personally will confront the tension between "living the good life" and "living a life in which there is goodness." [Semesters Offered: Fall, Spring].
