Course Description

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in CHEM 100, one year of high school chemistry with minimum grade of B taken within the last 5 years, or satisfactory test score; Minimum grade of C in ENGL 115, ENGL 103W, ENGL 103, or ENGL 104, or satisfactory test score placing into ENGL 103W or higher, concurrent enrollment in ENGL 115 allowed. Explores the principles of molecular and cellular biology, genetics, and evolution. Includes the scientific process; chemical principles and biological molecules; cell structure, metabolism, and reproduction; Mendelian, chromosomal, and molecular genetics and genome organization. This course considers the development and mechanisms of evolutionary theory. Laboratory emphasizes development of lab skills, biological techniques, and instrumentation used in biology.
